This is the first time troops have bivouacked in the Capitol since the US Civil War in the 1860s.

LIE: Trump didn’t instigate or cause the attack on the Capitol.

Joe Biden has said he wants to be the next Franklin Roosevelt.

The Democratic sweep of the Georgia Senate races opens up a whole new set of possibilities for President Joe Biden. If the Republicans had prevailed in these critical races, Mitch McConnell would’ve done everything in his power to sabotage the American people and the Biden Administration in a craven attempt to regain power.

When Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are inaugurated on January 20, they will have razor thin Democratic majorities in both Houses. The majority in the House will be 222 to 211 and 51 to 50 in the Senate. …

Biden won the largest vote percentage obtained against an incumbent president since 1932 and a bigger percentage of the popular vote than any Republican president since George H.W. Bush in 1988.

The GOP is trying to make a false equivalence between its own current election challenge and previous (symbolic) Democratic challenges to the counting of the electoral votes in the Congress in 2001, 2005 and 2017. Let’s take a little trip down memory lane.

Al Gore conceded on December 13, 2000 and accepted the Supreme Court’s controversial decision in Bush v. Gore. In January 2001, a dozen House Democrats objected to awarding Florida’s 25 electoral votes to Bush. No Senator joined them. …

Rising star Adam Morfeld has led the opposition to Ricketts and is running for Lancaster County Attorney in 2022.

The last legislative session was marked by acrimony and the largest (and unfunded) property tax cut in state history. This risky tax scheme will most likely cause cuts in services like education and health care, which are essential to a vibrant economy.

The November elections which followed this legislative session resulted in the Republicans picking up two seats — which was a bit of a setback for Governor Ricketts. In the session that begins on January 6, there will be 32 Republicans and 17 Democrats. …

Trump golfing on December 24, 2020 while he held up desperately needed assistance for tens of millions of suffering Americans.

There has been a running debate among historians and many Americans about who should have the dubious distinction of being the worst president* of all time. The emerging consensus is that it will be none other than Donald Trump.

In this piece, I plan to review the records of the men whom I believe to be the worst presidents of all time and share how those records in some respects are very similar to that of Trump. Unfortunately, Trump’s sorry record includes all of the worst aspects of this rogue’s gallery and then some.

Franklin Pierce, 1853 to 1857.

Pierce significantly increased sectional tensions by signing into law the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854. This allowed territories and newly formed states to determine whether or not they allowed slavery. Before 1854, slavery in the territories had been forbidden. As a consequence, civil war broke out in Kansas over the issue of slavery. …

The Republicans only “care” about the deficit when there is a Democratic president.

As I’ve discussed here numerous times, the Republicans simply don’t believe in the right of the Democratic Party to govern. That unpatriotic belief has manifested itself in the GOP efforts to sabotage the last two Democratic Presidents.

In 1993, not one Republican voted for President Clinton’s budget that led to an economic boom and budget surplus during his presidency. Republican obstruction was worse during the Obama Administration. The Republicans in Congress settled on a strategy of all out obstruction in late 2008 before President Obama was even inaugurated. …

Earlier this year, the GOP and some reporters in the “liberal” mainstream media falsely blamed Democrats for the unrest in America’s cities following several instances of police misconduct. Joe Biden and other leading Democrats acted responsibly and were quick to condemn the rioters and looters.

The reality is that most of the mayhem last summer was committed by white supremacists and Trump followers. Police departments in Portland, Richmond and Minneapolis blamed groups like the Boogaloo Bois for the violence. What’s more, a teenage Trump supporter was charged with a double murder in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Trump and his followers failed to condemn this extreme right wing violence. Instead, Trump praised the teenager who was charged with murder in Kenosha and provided encouragement to the Proud Boys during the first debate with Biden. …

Team Trump has lost 54 out of 55 post-election lawsuits.

Doug Peterson was a successful trial lawyer before he was elected Attorney General in 2014. While he was in private practice, Peterson undoubtedly learned that attorneys are barred from filing junk lawsuits and appeals. Judges have broad authority to fine attorneys who bring frivolous legal actions. An attorney who brings multiple baseless cases could even face the prospect of having one’s law license suspended. This is a rule that the overwhelming majority of lawyers take very seriously.

Since Peterson has been Attorney General, he has politicized the office for partisan political purposes and governed as an extremist committed to advancing the agenda of Donald Trump and the right wing of the GOP. …

The D.C. Republicans believe that rich people don’t have enough money and that the poor and middle class have it too easy.

An internal debate has broken out in the Democratic Party in light of the mixed results of the November elections. Some moderates have argued that progressive ideas like Medicare For All and the Green New Deal hurt down ballot Democrats. In addition, there is concern that the GOP’s phony charge that Democrats want to defund the police was another factor in the outcome of the election.

The reality is that the reasons for the mixed bag for down ballot Democrats are multi-factorial in nature — you can’t point to any one factor. What actually occurred is that the Republicans recruited a lot of good female candidates and ran better campaigns. Unlike the Democrats, the Republicans went door to door despite the pandemic. …

Trump’s mishandling of the pandemic will relegate him to the status as the worst president in American history.

The only real piece of good news that has come out in 2020 is that several pharmaceutical companies have made astonishing progress on developing an effective vaccine for the corona virus. Normally, the development of a vaccine can take years but these companies are ready to roll out a vaccine later this month. The first vaccinations in Nebraska will occur in mid-December.

Despite this welcome news, the pandemic is still ravaging the nation while Trump and his administration are offering no government help or protection for Americans. Here we are eight months into this pandemic and Trump and McConnell still don’t have a plan to tackle the gravest crisis in the U.S. …
