Ben Sasse’s Horrible, No Good Day
Since has been in the Senate, Ben Sasse has tried to pass himself as some kind of non-partisan critic — or even opponent — of Trump and the hard right. It’s been a hard sell for Sasse since he votes with Trump around 88% of the time. For example, Sasse voted for the deficit financed tax cuts for the rich, banking deregulation and the nominations of Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. Those are the signal “accomplishments” of two years of GOP rule in D.C.
Nebraska’s junior Senator further burnished his credentials as a Trump toady on three crucial votes yesterday. As usual, Sasse is all talk and no action.
Sasse voted against legislation that would have protected Robert Mueller from termination by Trump on the flimsy grounds it was unconstitutional.
The Yale grad and long time D.C. insider voted against ending the Trump Administration’s support for the ongoing war in Yemen that has resulted in the deaths of approximately 85,000 people.
Finally, Sasse ended his horrible, no good day by voting to advance the nomination of Thomas Farr to be a federal district judge in North Carolina. Farr is the author of the infamous North Carolina gerrymandering scheme that targeted African-American voters with “surgical precision.” This law was struck down by the federal courts because it was intentionally designed to stop African-Americans from voting.
Sasse is simply a well behaved version of Trump. Support for Trump isn’t an a la carte situation. If you support Trump’s agenda like Sasse does, you are enabling his bad behavior and racism. Period.
