Impeachment: Another Win For Speaker Nancy Pelosi — And The American People
I posted a blog piece yesterday which (correctly) contended that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi put swing state GOP Senators in a no win position by holding back the articles of impeachment. Pelosi’s savvy move put the spotlight on the sham trial that Mitch McConnell wanted to stage in which there would have been no witnesses or documents.
Reliable and recent polling indicated that the overwhelming majority of the American people and swing state voters want a legitimate impeachment trial with actual evidence.
Despite that polling, the “liberal” mainstream media had prematurely declared Mitch McConnell the alleged “winner” because Pelosi will soon send the articles of impeachment over to the U.S. Senate. It turns out that the elite media and the GOP were wrong — again. As I discussed, exposing criminal activity and corruption is more popular than covering it up.
Recent events have vindicated Pelosi and made her — and the American people — the genuine winners. We have recently learned that any hopes from Trump and McConnell that the impeachment charges can be quickly dismissed with a simple motion to dismiss have vanished. Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) advised reporters that the Senate Republican caucus doesn’t have the necessary 51 votes to dismiss the articles of impeachment against Trump even though the former TV reality star recently demanded an “outright dismissal.” Trump White House aides said “the optics of a vote to dismiss would be tough for Republicans. “
Trump got even more bad news on the impeachment matter. According to CBS News: “White House Officials increasingly believe that at least four Republicans, and likely more, will vote to call witnesses. In addition to Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, Mitt Romney of Utah and possibly Cory Gardner of Colorado, the White House also views Rand Paul of Kentucky as a “wild card” and Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee as an “institutionalist” who might vote to call witnesses, as one official put it.”
Yesterday, Mitt Romney indicated that he would: “Barring some sort of surprise I’ll vote in favor of hearing witnesses.” The Utah Senator said he would like to hear from National Security Adviser John Bolton.
The Trump/McConnell cover up of the Ukraine scandal is on the verge of collapse. Holding a cover up trial without any witnesses simply isn’t tenable for the Senate Republicans. Thanks to the American people, they can’t get away with an illegitimate show trial. As Nancy Pelosi said: “The American people deserve the truth, and the Constitution demands a trial.”
