Pete Ricketts Tried To Steal The 2020 Election
Last week, Donald Trump was indicted in the District of Columbia for attempting to steal the 2020 election. A federal grand jury indicted him on four counts related to conspiracy to defraud the United States, witness tampering, conspiracy against the rights of citizens, and obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding.
Trump is in serious legal jeopardy in the D.C. case. Judge Tanya Chutkan is a tough, no nonsense judge who won’t put up with his usual lies and delaying tactics. She has already handled numerous January 6 cases and has rejected the kinds of defenses that will be raised by Trump’s legal team. At the present time, federal prosecutors tout above a 95% conviction rate.
Pete Ricketts would like you to forget that he was a party to Trump’s illegal and treasonous effort to steal the 2020 election and thwart the will of the voters. In December 2020, Pete Ricketts (and Doug Peterson) joined a junk lawsuit filed by Texas and 16 other red states aimed at throwing out the 62 electoral votes for Joe Biden in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Ricketts and his extreme allies asked the high court to disenfranchise millions of voters. Ricketts had to know that Trump had lost.
Donald Trump intervened in this case, saying this was the “Big One. ” Interestingly enough, the disgraced, former one term president was represented by John Eastman. Incidentally, Eastman is a co-conspirator who will shortly be indicted for his role in trying to steal the election on January 6. Watch for it.
Former Creighton University Law School Dean and current law professor Patrick Borchers posted the following about this case in late 2020 on his Facebook page: Texas’s attempt to bring a suit against four other states over the election is in technical legal terms “bonkers.”
Other legal experts decried Ricketts’ case and correctly predicted that the Supreme Court would reject it. Election law expert Rick Hasen said this about Ricketts’ frivolous lawsuit : “This is a press release masquerading as a lawsuit. … What utter garbage. Dangerous garbage, but garbage.”
As it turned out, the Supreme Court didn’t even grant oral arguments and dismissed Texas’ lawsuit with a one line order. That was a pretty humiliating defeat for Ricketts. His lawsuit was too radical for the current extreme Republican Supreme Court super majority. That would be like Charlie Sheen saying this party is too wild for me.
You can’t love America and hate democracy. You really have to hate America and all it stands for to openly attempt to overthrow democracy. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT).
The silver lining to the most recent indictment of Trump is that this will force the Republicans to re-litigate the 2020 election and defend Trump’s baseless conspiracy theories. “A study from researchers at Stanford Business School showed that candidates that pushed the Big Lie did 2.3 points worse than other Republicans. This indictment means that the Big Lie will be a central part of the 2024 campaign. That’s bad news for the Republican Party.” Dan Pfeiffer.
Trump’s legal problems and continuing false claim that he won the 2020 election will drag down the entire Republican Party. Ricketts — like most Republicans — backed Trump’s efforts to steal the 2020 election. The entire Republican Party was a co-conspirator in the effort to overturn the election. The entire GOP could pay a high price next November.
According to Kevin Drum: “A total of 59% of House Republicans supported objections to the count in Arizona and 68% did so in Pennsylvania.” The Electoral Count Act, passed last year, will make it much harder to challenge presidential elections in the future. Up to 96% of House Republicans voted against it. Mike Flood, Don Bacon and Adrian Smith all voted no. Fischer also opposed it.
The bottom line here is that it’s not just Trump who tried to thwart the will of the American people. Virtually of the Republican Party collaborated in
Trump’s illegal coup attempt.
“It’s Jack Smith’s job to hold Trump and his associates legally accountable. It’s up to all of us to make sure Republicans suffer the consequences.” Dan Pfeiffer “The only thing that can keep him from prison is the White House. The only thing that can keep him from the White House is us. Show up, good people.” John Pavlovitz
Democracy and freedom will be on the ballot in 2024. This could be the last free election in American history if Trump and his willing accomplices win the election. The GOP is now an authoritarian party that doesn’t believe in free elections. They want to create a system like the one in Hungary where the rules are rigged so that the GOP always wins.
It’s America or the MAGA Republicans in 2024. Choose wisely. Now let’s get it done!
