Rudy Shifting the Goalposts on Russian Collusion
Giuliani moved the goal posts in two big ways on Fox & CNN :
1. He’s no longer claiming Trump didn’t collude with Russia. He is now asserting that “collusion is not a crime.”
2. He’s not denying Cohen’s claim that Trump knew about the June 9, 2016 meeting with the Russians at Trump Tower in advance. Instead, he’s saying Trump did not attend the meeting.
Now let’s take a look at the evolution of the Trump team’s talking points on contacts with the Russians:
Hope Hicks, Nov. 2016: “There was no communication between the campaign and any foreign entity during the campaign”
Trump, Feb. 2017: “I have nothing to do with Russia. To the best of my knowledge no person that I deal with does.”
Giuliani, July 2018: “Collusion is not a crime”
Why did the Trump team lie about every meeting and contact they had with the Russians? (There were at least 82 contacts between the Trump team and the Russians.) What was their motivation? If they are innocent, why do they act so guilty?
