The Republicans’ Terrible Record On Crime

8 out of the 10 states with the highest homicide rates are red states that were carried by Trump.

Trump and the MAGA Republicans are in serious political trouble. Trump and his agenda are deeply unpopular. The economy is tanking and may very well be going into a recession. This is after Trump promised rapid and fast price cuts and an economic boom beginning on day one. Voters outside of the die hard MAGA base have given up on Trump and the D.C. Republicans.

Trump and MAGA are trying to change the subject by posing as being tough on crime and falsely alleging that the Democrats are soft on crime. This is laughable since Trump is a 34 time convicted felon. Trump was indicted for the attack on the Capitol on January 6 and for stealing intelligence documents. He was headed for guilty verdicts until the six Republicans on the Supreme Court ruled he was legally immune.

Let’s never let the voters forget that Trump incited his thugs to attack the Capitol on January 6. His traitors were the proximate cause of the deaths of 4 police officers and wounded 140 other police officers. Trump pardoned everyone of these traitors. Every Republican but one boycotted a ceremony that honored the police officers who protected them on January 6. The GOP isn’t the party of law and order.

Trump attempted to show off his alleged law and order credentials when he sent troops to Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Without any evidence, the elite pundits in the corporate and billionaire media boldly predicted that these deployments would be popular.

The invasions of Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. proved to be unpopular outside of the die hard Trump base. (Never forget that the pundit class repeatedly over estimates Trump’s strength.) Three different and reputable polling firms measured the approval rating for Trump’s invasion of Los Angeles. The approval rating for these deployments ranged from a miserly 34% to 41%.

Similarly, Trump’s invasion of our nation’s capital proved to be unpopular. A Quinnipiac poll indicated that 41% of voters approved, while 56% disapproved. The Reuters/Ipsos poll found only 38% approval for the deployment of the National Guard in Washington, D.C.

A new CBS News poll indicated that 58% of Americans are opposed to Don Old Trump’s deployment of the National Guard into major cities purportedly to fight crime. Only Trump’s hard core base supports these deployments.

A story seldom mentioned by the mainstream press is that the Republicans are a failure when it comes to actual crime fighting. A Report from Third Way of February 28, 2024 made the following startingly findings:

“The red state murder rate was 33% higher than the blue state murder rate in both 2021 and 2022.

2022 was the 23rd consecutive year that murder plagued Trump-voting states at far higher levels than Biden-voting states.

8 out of the 10 states with the highest murder rates in 2022 voted for Donald Trump in both 2016 and 2020.

From 2000 to 2022, the average red state murder rate was 24% higher than the average blue state murder rate.

Red states like Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama are America’s murder capitals and have had the highest three murder rates for 15 of the last 23 years.

The excuse that sky high red state murder rates are because of their blue cities is without merit. Even after removing the county with the largest city from red states, and not from blue states, red state murder rates were still 20% higher in 2021 and 16% higher in 2022.”

The New York Times made a similar finding on August 31, 2023:

“Consider DeSantis’s state, Florida. Its homicide rate was roughly 50 percent higher than New York’s in 2021. Florida’s two most populous cities, Jacksonville and Miami, each had a homicide rate more than double New York City’s last year, even though both had Republican mayors.

Looking at all the data, it is hard to make much of any connection between political partisanship and crime. To put it another way, prominent Republicans are misrepresenting the country’s crime problem.

Take the 20 largest U.S. cities. The 16 run by Democratic mayors had 12.3 murders for every 100,000 people. The three Republican-run cities — Jacksonville, Fort Worth and Oklahoma City — had a rate of 11.4.

Whether a big city is run by Democrats or Republicans has little influence on its murder rate.”

These findings obliterate any Republican argument that they are superior crime fighters. The GOP likes to contend that murder and crime are concentrated in blue cities run by Democrats. This data explodes this phony argument. Even if you take out the data from blue cities, red state murder rates are still significantly higher than blue states. Moreover, the murder rate in red and blue cities is essentially the same.

We Democrats need to get out of our defensive crouch on crime. If we push out the facts, we can win on the crime issue. The argument is simple. The Republicans are led by an actual criminal. Every elected Republican blindly follows their criminal leader. When it comes to the actual hard work of fighting crime, the Republicans are a failure. The GOP inspired gun laws are directly responsible for the higher homicide rates in the red states.

Like I said earlier, Trump and MAGA are in serious political trouble. Another story being ignored by the Vichy media is that the Democrats are out performing Harris by 10 to 20 points in the 2025 elections. If this trend continues, there will be a blue wave next year. Voters outside of the hard core Trump base are angry.

Be confident going forward. Keep working hard. Take nothing for granted. Voters want to be associated with winners. Enough with the infighting and self flagellation. It’s time to look forward. We have a big opportunity in 2026.

MAGA means Morons Are Governing America.

Throw the rascals out! Blue wave 2026!
