While the attack was being carried out, Trump was delighted and excited.

This timeline from an April 10 Associated Press story indicates that Donald Trump didn’t take action to stop the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6. (While the attack was being carried out, Trump was delighted and excited.)

12 Noon. Trump speech. Trump told his followers: “You will never take our country back with weakness…We fight. We fight like hell…If you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.” Rudy Giuliani called for “trial by combat.” Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) said: “Today is the day American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass.”

1:15 PM The march on the Capitol began.

1:30 PM Violence began. Trump’s followers began to break through police barriers.

1:49 PM U.S. Capitol Police requested help from the D.C. National Guard.

2:10 PM Trump’s followers broke into the U.S. Capitol Building.

2:10 PM The Capitol Police asked again for reinforcements from the D.C. National Guard.

3 PM Verbal approval was given for the activation of 1,100 D.C. National Guard troops. It took 90 minutes for them to begin to move to the Capitol.

3:19 PM Pelosi and Schumer asked the Pentagon for help. They were told the National Guard was on the way.

3:49 PM Congressional leaders again plea for help.

4:08 PM Pence called the acting Defense Secretary and demanded answers.

4:17 PM. Trump ended his silence and tweeted to his followers to “go home and go in peace.”

4:30 PM The military plan was finalized and the D.C. National Guard had approval to send the Guard to the Capitol.

4:40 PM Pelosi and Schumer again asked the Pentagon for help.

5:20 PM The D.C. National Guard finally arrived at the Capitol.

8 PM The Capitol is cleared of rioters. There were very few arrests.

According to A.P.: “With Trump not engaged, it fell to Pentagon officials, a handful of senior White House aides, the leaders of Congress and the vice president holed up in a secure bunker to manage the chaos.”

Why didn’t Trump take any action to stop the attack on the Capitol on January 6? There still has been no official account of Trump’s activity from the White House after the attack started. We deserve answers. We need a 9/11 style Commission to investigate what occurred and ensure that it never happens again.
