Why does Fortenberry vote with Trump 95% of the time?
Another day in Trump.
Trump will be departing Washington today for a 17 day golf vacation. One could certainly argue that the presidency has been an extended vacation for Trump. Trump has reportedly already spent more than $21 million on travel so far in his presidency, which would outpace Obama’s entire 8-year travel budget by the end of 2017. And all this is coming from a guy who repeatedly attacked Obama for taking time off during his presidency.
According to the Washington Post, Trump has spent 53 “leisure” days through August 2017 as compared to 15 for Obama through August 2009.” (Please see the attached picture for details.)
On the other hand, Robert Mueller and his team won’t be taking a vacation. Apparently, Mueller is impaneling a grand jury. This means that many members of the Trump team will soon be testifying under oath. It will be interesting to see how this works out with their culture of constant lying.
Over on Capitol HIll, Chuck Schumer sent a letter informing McConnell the Democrats are willing to work with the GOP on tax reform if the bill doesn’t cut taxes for the 1% or add to the deficit. McConnell rejected the offer and told him the GOP is going it alone again. This tells me that the GOP wants to add trillions of dollars to the deficit to fund a tax cut for the rich. I think we’ve tried this before and it didn’t work.
On a brighter note, a group of Senate Republicans and Democrats are going to work on a bi-partisan basis on legislation to shore up what isn’t working with the ACA. There is still some hope.
Happy Friday everybody!
